C'était une super expérience, à refaire ! Les vins sont bons.

The grandson of Paul Blank, Philippe, greeted the four of us yesterday and took us to his tasting room for a great experience. Philippe learned our names and our general approaches to wine appreciation. He then took us on a tour of 13 of his family’s wines, which were well made and interesting. He drew our attention to the color, viscosity, nose, structure, acidity, balance and finish of each wine. Philippe was generous with his wisdom and with his time; he’s a sweetheart! We all so much enjoyed this experience; merci bien Philippe!!

We had a very enjoyable tasting of 13 wines in total, including several grand cru. It was well worth the cost, and takes away the pressure of having to buy at a free tasting. The wines were delicious, so we ended up buying a few bottles.

I went without expectations but we had a fabulous 2 hours of wine tasting. Over 15 wines were tasted … I stopped counting and I had to ask to owner to stop otherwise we would be still there. Fabulous wine from the region. From day to day wines to Tres Grand Crus.

Christian gave us the full overview of the wines of Domaine Paul Blanck, ranging inclusing “les classiques” (entry level), “les incontournables” (the essentials), “les vins de terroirs” (single vineyards including the Grand Crus) and “les vendanges tardives” (late harvest). We tasted all of the important Alsatian wines: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewurtztraminer, Sylvaner, Muscat d’Alsace and Pinot Noir. We tasted a total of 22 wines including 7 Grand Crus! For me, the Grand Cru Rieslings and Gewurtztraminers really stood out. Christian explained the importance of the terroir - how the location, soil, sun exposure and elevation all shape the wines. This was a fantastic experience! As an American wine lover who knew very little about Alsatian wines, I came away informed and inspired. One note: the wine tasting room if very simple. It doesn’t look like the picture. But don’t let that dissuade you from tasting these great wines.
