Clos du Calvaire

Everything was terrific in my visit to Clos du Calvaire! Starting with Morgan (the guy who guided the tour). His kindness, his hospitality, his knowledge, his willingness to answer questions and his ability transmitting the values of the Clos du Calvaire were outstanding. His passion was really contagious! Then the premises. The vineyards on one side were a stunning view and the way Morgan explained how they tended them left no doubt about the Mayard family love and respect for their their terroirs. Then the cellar installation was no less stunning and very interesting to learn how everything worked and how a grape evolves from just a fruit to something awesome. Then before the tasting Morgan spent some time explaining the history of the Mayard Family, their properties in the region, the rules of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation (which, btw, are very strict) and the different types of terroirs in the are and how they affect the type of grapes (and then wine) they can produce. Last but not least, the wines themselves! I have to admit I am not a red wine guy. I very much prefer white wine. Well, it happens the only 3% of Clos du Calvaire production is white wine while the remaining 97% is red. I tasted a couple of whites but all other were red... And all of them were wonderful! (in fact I ended up buying more red than white). And the aromas!!! I like (a lot ?) to drink wine but I am sure I could have been all they there just smelling the different wines without drinking a drop! it was absolutely exhilarating! Then the taste was also terrific, of course! A must for wine and wine-culture lovers! I highly recomend it! Thank you very much Clos du Calvaire (and Morgan) it was a perfect day!

First I’d like to say that Anna Laure did a wonderful job taking us through the tastings of their wines. The wines themselves were interesting and very well thought out leaving some delicious wines! You won’t be disappointed make a booking now!

A drive through serene wine country to get there? Check. A beautiful estate? Check. Easy to book and find? Check. Greeted at the door warmly and given a memorable tour and tasting? Check. Truly a must on your trip to the region! Our host, Morgan, was incredible. Told us the history of the family, the winery, and the region. Walked us through the intricate winemaking process and showed us where each step is done. Answered all our questions. He had so much clear passion for the business and the family! I appreciated how authentic and kind Morgan was, how he never condescended to us about anything, how the family treats their land and their people, how incredible and varied the wine tasted, and how much I learned!
